> Dell Inspiron 6000 wireless network card

I've the same laptop, may be i can help.

The first time i've boot p:d, i've no wireless connection. I did this to fix
it, I think it will be fine for you too.

1. edit /etc/network/interfaces
I've a standard Linksys router, so i added this line "wireless-essid lynksys"
to find the network
2. install the ipw220 firmware

$ cat /etc/network/interfaces
*******************************************************************
auto lo
iface lo inet loopback
auto eth0

iface eth1 inet dhcp
wireless-essid lynksys
ifup eth1

*******************************************************************
$ iwconfig
*******************************************************************
lo        no wireless extensions.

eth0      no wireless extensions.

$ dmesg | grep -i wireless

Download the firmware : http://ipw2200.sourceforge.net/firmware.php
A useful website (in french) to find drivers : http://kmuto.jp/debian/hcl/

Decompress the archive of the firmware
Move all files.fw "*.fw" to /usr/lib/hotplug/firmware.
Reboot the computer
$ iwconfig (see if it's ok now)
$ knetworkmanager (i don't remember if it was useful ...)
