yes, that sounds like a risky setup that you have here.
I would still suggest you try to avoid running everything as root, if
you need to have access to some storage and have permissions issues you
can always change the permissions settings when theses devices are
mounted (read the doc for mount, fstab, or whatever system you use to
mount).
