About installing WinXP; I'm using VirtualBox in
Ubuntu to run AutoCAD (no native ACAD Linux AFAIK), but its
cursor movement is slightly sluggish. So my idea is to install the WinXP
Unetbootin on my PD USB key and try
to install it from there to my HDD after its been erased from there as
well. I'll try to report on what happens.

Yeah, this ticks me off too. It's because "emacs bindings" are enabled in apps
other than emacs.
I found a command online (http://forum.xfce.org/index.php?topic=4731.0) that
will turn off the emacs bindings defaults.
xfconf-query -c xsettings -p /Gtk/KeyThemeName -s Default
If it works for you, try adding it to the end of your ~/.profile
