How are you trying to boot them? Are you holding the C button down Those systems look very similar to me too.
The EFI on one of them may have password-protection enabled, which according to this article prevents boot from cd/dvd by holding C: http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1352 That page also suggests how you can check/alter whether it is password-protected. You could also try resetting the PRAM on the mac which doesn't want to boot it. Not particularly likely to help but it's easy to do.
