With the 2 esi card I have there is no problem. Have you check your alsamixer ?
you can run alsamixer -c 0 for your default card (probably onboard ?) and alsamixer -c 1 for your extra card (hopefully your usb ) in alsamixer you can then setup the volume of your output. Is the card working without jack ?
