If your system is karmic you need to manually update the repo.
So:
make $sudo emacs /etc/apt/source.list
go to edit Replace or Ctrl+Alt+% replace karmic with lucid.
$sudo apt-get update
#sudo apt-get distr-update

What version of PureDyne are you using?
Please try starting Rosegarden from a terminal and send along any debug
info that might come up if you can. Otherwise it will be hard to figure
out what might be wrong.
