I don't known if it's a good idea to reinvent the whell,
as we have already a lot of tools to monitor that (collectd, nagios, 
zabbix,....).

I wonder if we couldn't do it in the reverse way, adding support to pvestatd to 
send vm stats
to optionnal external metric server (like graphite for example).

We use graphite at work with grafana as frontend (http://grafana.org/), it's 
very powerful.
