Same here. But now for stability we prefer IDE. Yes, we lose performance in guests. We will try again virtio in windows in the future. For now we use it just in linux guests.
I will update the BIOS again (will have to move the guests first, and should do the bios update only locally in the data center...) - and then maybe change to IDE Mode. Did you ever try to change back from virtio to ide? Does this work without a fresh install?
Yes if you installer Windows with IDE at the beginning and switched to virtio after. If it was a fresh install over virtio directly, you have to use mergeide.reg (look in the wiki).
