Oh, for the real cluster, I did an inplace upgrade, and when the cluster
was again created, VMs reappeared on the migrated nodes (at the end, all
VMs were alive again). I did not restored VMs from backups.

Same here. Followed carefully instructions on the wiki after doing so on
a test setup.
Everything went fine.
