I saw some posts about Gluster 3.8 on Proxmox but to be sure, is it ok to update gluster to 3.8 on a latest Proxmox 4.3-7 ? (From gluster38 repo)
3.8.4 from the gluster debian repo is just fine on proxmox, the debian repo proxmox uses is very out of date. Thats not uncommon, a lot of projects maintain their own repo's ahead of mainstream distros.
I'm not sure about upgrading from Gluster 3.5.2 (the proxmox vs) to 3.8.4 though, whether it can be done in one step etc. You might want to ask that question of the gluster user list.
nb. There is a Gluster 3.8.5 repo but I would avoid it for now, a bug with gfapi access surfaced.
