You can install Proxmox to separate drive and after that manually create
ZFS RAID on NVME as VM storage. See

Hello,
I am just beginning with learning Proxmox, and I have a question which
you hopefully can answer. I want to install Proxmox on a machine with
two PCIe (NVME) SSDs configured as RAID 1. Unfortunately, the machine
cannot boot from NVME SSD, so I will need a separate boot drive.
Does the Proxmox installer support this scenario? I think it would not
hurt much to have the entire host system on hard disk, as long as the
VMs run from SSD.
Or do I need to do a manual debian installation and then install
Proxmox? I'd like to use ZFS, and I have no idea how to do that with a
plain debian installation.
Thanks,
Andreas
