Hi,
between linux 2.6.16 and 2.6.17 a new kernel option has been integrated into
the kernel (kernel help):
CONFIG_BLK_DEV_IO_TRACE:

Say Y here, if you want to be able to trace the block layer actions

on a given queue. Tracing allows you to see any traffic happening

on a block device queue. For more information (and the user space

support tools needed), fetch the blktrace app from:

git://brick.kernel.dk/data/git/blktrace.git

I tried it out in the morning. This tool is easy to use and looks promising in
order to show whats happening on the block layer. However, I'm not sure how
we can use this information for performance analysis efficiently, yet.

Julian
