I think for most configurations (where only one pvfs2-server is running on each node) the server might guess its alias by its hostname, similar to the way pvfs2-genconfig creates the configurations for the aliases right now... This could be done by an additional parameter e.g. if one specifies this parameter the server uses its hostname as alias. We use this setting right now even for the multi-file setup to run the pvfs2-server with mpi.
