Well, since no one has replied yet.... I would recommends running IOR (there have been some patches on this recently) and MPI-IO Test (google for it - it's at LANL and should be the first hit to come up). Each code has some options for running various tests.
I also like using a benchmark called PIO (from Clemson by Frank Shorter). It allows you to do quite a bit of MPI-IO testing using various data models. The link to his code is missing, but I have the code somewhere if you would like it. You can find his these though and that's worth reading. If you're evaluating parallel file systems, I would recommend you do some more extensive testing than just running a simple performance benchmark. I would run the benchmark on the file system as it fills up. This shows how the file system behaves under pressure. I would also run the same tests as the file system "ages." That is, as you add and remove file from the file system. This will show you performance as the file system fragments. I think you will be surprised at the results of these tests :) Good Luck!
