What version of PVFS is this and what is the build error? I've been using this option pretty consistently without trouble, but there may be a bug in the build process somewhere.

PVFS didn't build for me at all when I tried that option. Either distclean is broken, or PVFS now requires those symbols.

    Hi Brad,

There is a "--without-openssl" option to PVFS that keeps it from
using those symbols altogether. That's helped me in a couple of
cases where it was hard to drag the ssl libraries around.

        Hello,

Has there been any thought on trying to drag in the symbols
from openssl needed for pvfs into the pvfs2.a archive? Would a
quick --add-needed flag to the linker do it, or is that just
fantasy on my part. I understand why it would be bad to do it
for a pvfs shared lib, but if you're using the static library,
at some level the expection has to be that you aren't also
forcing in symbols for the openssl shared object?

I mention this, because I'm having to work around pvfs/openssl
difficulties with this in hdf5, and flash IO. Not huge
problems, but not beginner level stuff either.

        Cheers,
        Brad
