do we have MPI tests that exercise those features (both views and memory
datatypes, and both together)? I can put some of my people on getting
it tested.

Hi,
I'm sorry in the last post, not romio_pvfs2_listio_write seems the
right setting to use datatypes but romio_pvfs2_dtype_write
Which is disabled by default as well...
When I set the hint it works, reducing the time from 0.07s to 0.003Xs
so about 20 times faster due to the saved round-trips on our cluster.
I verified the expected behavior in the trace files.
I'm really happy to hear someone else has tried out Avery's more
complex datatype processing. RobR's right: I wanted a few users to
try out those hints on assorted workloads before enabling the
optimization by default. Well, that was several years ago. Maybe it's
time to turn it on.
