The behavior in this scenario with orangefs-2.8.3-EXP will be the same as other releases of the software. A server that is down prevents completion of any operation that involves that particular server. In order to get different behavior in the scenario where a server does not recover, you will need redundancy and failover functionality that is in the design phase right now.

When I read the code of orangefs , I find that it just randomly select the server to store the meta data on the client, regardless of whether the server is shutdown.
