Sure there's a way to do that; write the code and send us a patch :).
I understand what you're asking for, but we haven't done either of these
things yet. The root squash is probably not very hard and would only
touch a little bit of code I think; the sub-tree idea would be somewhat
harder, particularly with symlinks (which we only did because people
seem to like them so much...).

Another alternative could be to export only a sub-tree ( or
sub-directory) of the pvfs2 root tree to this particular client. The
root user on the client will thus be limited in scope. It can perform
actions only on that sub-directory.
