Good morning Peng,

Regarding cluster selections, just remember to go with someone that has a large installed base and thoroughly understands cluster architectures. Get *MANY REFERENCES* before buying from a vendor. Our Dell machine has been fine even though it was one of the first HPC systems they sold. Other vendors, though cheaper, have not been so trouble free.

You get what you pay for.

In addition, we would like know your ideas about the following questions:

1) Whether 64-bit processor like Interl Xeon works fine with
PVFS2/future version or not.
2) Will Dell power-edge server cluster works fine?
3) Which OS, Linux 2.6 or other fit PVFS2/future version well.
4) Which vendor/cluster solution do you recommend?

Any inputs are appreciated,
Peng

Dear all,

We are considering purchasing a 16-32 nodes cluster to serve as a
testbed for PVFS2 with GigaE or Infiniband interconnection. Do you
have any suggestions on
the configuration of the computer nodes and inter-connection hardware?

Thanks in advance!

Peng
