ok, that helps. i think there must be an error in the config. i have this from 
pvfs2-statfs:

server: tcp://compute-0-5.local:3334
        RAM bytes total  : 8362311680
        RAM bytes free   : 7500726272
        uptime (seconds) : 446023
        load averages    : 0 0 0
        handles available: 477218588
        handles total    : 477218588
        bytes available  : 7600467968
        bytes total      : 11757813760
        mode: serving only I/O data

indicating 7.6G available per io server. i have 8 of those so 8x7.6G=60.8 and 
8x11.75G=94G

let me go back and look at the base config again.
