Hi Dr tsao 'pvfsd' is a daemon from the older PVFS v1 series. If you had both some PVFS v1 servers and some PVFS v2 servers, then yes you could definitely load both the pvfs and pvfs2 kernel modules and run both pvfs2-client and pvfsd. We say it is not recomended because very few people actually end up in this situation. If all you have are PVFS v2 servers, then do not run pvfsd. I think what you might be asking is if PVFS servers can also be clients? That is definitely possible, but you will incur some overhead. The prefered setup is to have some number of dedicated PVFS servers. ==rob -- Rob Latham Mathematics and Computer Science Division A215 0178 EA2D B059 8CDF Argonne National Lab, IL USA B29D F333 664A 4280 315B _______________________________________________ Pvfs2-users mailing list [email protected] http://www.beowulf-underground.org/mailman/listinfo/pvfs2-users
