Thanks. I tried the FUSE client, and it seems to resolve the issue on Linux.

    It is a known bug in the PVFS2 kernel module.   Reported back in 
May by Andrew Savchenko.  And again in July by Jim Kusznir.  I have 
also encounted it.   

    I don't think it has been fixed yet.   Check the mailing list 
archive for details.  e.g. under subject:

        "PVFS2 problems compounding: not ready for production? "
