Is there any guarantee of ABI compatibility in the library between versions? I.e. should one expect to have to rebuild MPIs using ROMIO between 2.9.x and 2.9.y, for instance?
I'm not aware of any effort to maintain binary compatibility on the client. the protocol is upwards compatible (new clients can talk to old servers), so at least rebuilding client-side won't require rebuilding and re-deploying the servers.
