Ok, since the shortest route to a solution is working with known tools, I'll just assume the driver in Ubuntu is old/modified and replace it with the current driver. The only reason I broached the subject was, that the device froze at that time and required a power cycle to recover. It was such an odd event, as the device had been working flawlessly for months now. Let me play with the current driver and I'll let you know if that resolves the problem. Thank you!
