Thanks. Tried chmod 777 on /dev/video0 but no dice. Doing as Mike suggested and making sure I rebooted w/o mythbackend starting, I can't even cat /dev/video0. I get Input/ouput error. I may have mentioned that before.
I went back to testing with mythtv for a minute and noticed this... When myth opens dtv, enum_val lists only dtv as expected - narrowing. When I tell myth to switch to analog television, I see enum_val lists television, composite, svideo for a few seconds. I figure it is opening the analog side of the card, narrowing out dtv, but then failing. After a few seconds, enum_val lists all four entires, showing both sides of the card are closed. When running mythbackend and scanning for analog channels, the same thing shows under enum_val - the analog card is open and dtv is narrowed out of the list while it scans and finds nothing. I'm also seeing this series of entries in /var/log/syslog when myth tries to read the analog card... --------------- Jan 6 20:34:24 vao1420 kernel: [ 1457.524540] s5h1411_writereg: writereg error 0x19 0xf5 0x0001, ret == -5) Jan 6 20:34:25 vao1420 kernel: [ 1458.404736] tda18271_write_regs: ERROR: i2c_transfer returned: -5 Jan 6 20:34:25 vao1420 kernel: [ 1458.406658] s5h1411_writereg: writereg error 0x19 0xf5 0x0000, ret == -5) Jan 6 20:34:25 vao1420 kernel: [ 1458.408664] s5h1411_writereg: writereg error 0x19 0xf4 0x0001, ret == -5) --------------- FWIW... here's the series of entries in /var/log/messages when I connect the HVR-1950... --------------- Jan 6 20:42:49 vao1420 kernel: [ 1962.616164] usb 7-1: new high speed USB device using ehci_hcd and address 6 Jan 6 20:42:50 vao1420 kernel: [ 1962.753956] usb 7-1: configuration #1 chosen from 1 choice Jan 6 20:42:51 vao1420 kernel: [ 1963.756333] firmware: requesting v4l-pvrusb2-73xxx-01.fw Jan 6 20:42:51 vao1420 kernel: [ 1963.762815] pvrusb2: Device microcontroller firmware (re)loaded; it should now reset and reconnect.
