Nice. I'll try to respond later more thoroughly, but check out 
http://seaweed.cc.gatech.edu/refs/4. It should answer some of your 
questions. If you haven't already figured it out, the default directory 
is actually not a swiki, but determines other things, such as the admin 
utility and the default listing.
