Steve, I don't know all the details, but I can say I'm successfully
running a headless swiki on my machine with 3.0pre2 plus some patches. 
Probably upgrading to 3.0pre2 will do the trick, but if not, you can get
the patches I'm using from:

        http://www.cc.gatech.edu/~lex/squeak/

Going to 3.0pre2 is also supposed to help with -DHEADLESS, though I
haven't tried it myself.
