Last year the VisualWorks people found that Intel had changed some chip
level instruction set stuff.
They noticed crashes and other symptoms in new Intel processors. They had
to change VM code
to deal with it.
I could be wrong when I say "chip level instruction set stuff" as I don't
understand much below the Smalltalk level.
If someone who speaks "VM" is interested in finding out about this, you
might try posting to comp.lang.smalltalk
Maybe Windoze is not as forgiving as Linux? Does anyone have a new machine
running Linux w/ the
upload problems?
As for myself, I have Comanche 4.10 / Swiki 1.1 running on Win2k with a
733mhz P3. IE 5.5 can view
anything but cannot upload. However Netscape 4.77 can upload easily. I
cannot test Netscape 6x
because of firewall/proxy server problems with the setup and registration.
