Have you tried the instructions on the Swiki Swiki
(http://minnow.cc.gatech.edu/swiki/11)?

You don't have to be root to install squeak. Also, all of Squeak usually stays in one 
directory, so uninstalling just means deleting that directory. If you transfer files 
in 
binary mode, the only difference between the Linux and the Windows Squeak is the VM.
