Well, I'm doing this with, gulp, JSPs :-)
The reason we are not doing anything about the plugin detection now is
that we deliberately decided not to do dectection at all. This is
actually what a lot of web sites do in respect to flash etc.
Maintaining the detection process for all browsers is a nightmare, and
honestly, much more then we (well, actually I ;-) ) are able (or
willing) to do in a 24h workday ;-)
