what kind of machine? for windows: ============================================================================ 1. start comswiki 2. set the port 3 start the server 4 SAVE & EXIT (from this moment on the server will start when you start this comswiki) 5. put comswiki.exe in your auto-startup-folder (rebooting your system will autostart comswiki server.
============================================================================ additonal function: auto-restart comswiki when server seems death: scenario 1: install another server with the watchdog script (see swiki) scenario 2: poor mans solution under windows: Now and then (for example uploading files to quickly) the Swiki-server does no longer answer requests. Kill & restart the Squeak/Swiki-process solves the problem without any damage to the server-content. To let the PC under Windows do this unattended in a simple way, I used this freeware combination: 1. install a Squeak/Swiki 2. start this Squeak/Swiki 3. press the start-button in the Swiki-dialog-box 4. THEN PRESS (when the start-button gets red) the save&exit-button (from now on: if you start this Squeak/Swiki, the server is active) 5. download & install from http://www.ntutility.com/freeware.html the free product ActiveServerWatcher (482 Kb) 6. download & install from http://www.koeltzsch.com/Software/software.htm the free program KillProcess (32Kb) 7. create a textfile named RestartSwiki.bat with these two lines: killprocess.exe /K squeak.exe squeak.exe squeak.image watch out: it will kill all running squeaks on this machine, not only your death server. remark: add pathnames where necessary, also for the squeak-image-file, BUT NOT for the squeak.exe on the killprocess line! (KillProcess expects under WindowsNT that psapi.dll is present, if not kill fails.. download this dll from website: http://www.starfishbay.com/handything/nt4sp6.shtml) if the second line seems not to be executed, put some dummy-commands between the two lines like DIR DIR DIR :) 8. start ASW (it will show up as a globe-icon at the bottom right) 9 doubleclick this icon and a window pops-up 10. create under Resources the adress of your Swiki: include that active port you did choose for your swiki, for example http:\\localhost:8888 11 fill in: retry 3 times before run action(s) 12 uncheck: display this message 13 uncheck: bring this dialog to top 14 feel free to check: write to logfile (and give it a name) 15 checkmark the box for "Run external file" 16 fill in for this external file your RestartSqueak.bat (include the path for that file) 17. fill in the textbox for the frequency of the checks (every 15 minutes?) 18. sit and wait, your Swiki should start automatically 19. try to make your swiki idle (doing it on purpose is very difficult!!) and see if it then reboots automatically For me it did work with Windows98 and WindowsNT > -----Original Message----- > From: John Voiklis [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] > Sent: dinsdag 12 februari 2002 11:16 > To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] > Subject: [pws] start up script > > > Hi, > > I would like to start up Comswiki when my machine boots.
