a tcpdump of the data between the transport and ejabberd would be
useful too. It's possible that the transport _is_ sending the data to
ejabberd, but it's getting dropped because it's failing some
validation check.

I ran in to this before, and have experienced problems with it since. It
happens when the icq buddy is using the official client. I noticed this
with earlier versions of PyICQ, and a friend of mine has asked me why
his can't receive messages from his brother using the transport. The
thing is that i looked in the logs for any sign of the message arriving
anywhere but it does not. For me I noticed this by my sister never
answering me and called her to ask what her problem was. When I realized
she did answer I asked her to try jabber, and she installed "miranda".
Now all of a sudden her messages via ICQ AND Jabber got through to me.
The important thing to notice is that I saw nothing in the logs.

Daniel, could this be the client using the servers local IP as client IP
and the official client is trying to do P2P messages, or am I completely
wrong?

You know, the user who asked about this probably isn't seeing this
conversation, I'm not sure he's subscribed to the list. ;D Let me
send him an invite.

Hrm. I remember there being a problem with that in the past. I also
don't think "direct connect" works, but then it shouldn't accept a
direct connection since it doesn't advertise support for that and ...
well flat out doesn't support it. There was a problem with old ICQ
clients that said messages on a different channel. I'd like to be
able to see some logs from when such an event occurs. (can't
communicate from a particular icq client) There's also a slight
chance that I've fixed this already in the latest SVN.

I should hope that ICQ pays attention to it's own protocol and
doesn't try a direct connect (p2p) without PyICQ advertising that it
supports that. =D If it does, then that's power lame!
