Hi folk,

One of my tasks pre-next release is to revamp the documentation I
have available. What I'm after here is something of a generic "focus
on the content" scenario that can then be turned into other formats,
such as PDF and a web layout. What I'm currently looking at is LaTeX
but I wanted to appeal to you all for suggestions. Is this probably
my best bet or are there other interesting free alternatives out
there that I ought to take a look at? I'm asking now before I delve
into this and am "in the thick" of LaTeX so to speak. So far it
appears easy to use and produces effectively what I'm looking for...
something platform and format independent that can be turned into
whatever you might want (within reason). TeX's been around a looong
time though and newer "better" things may have been invented since
then that I'm not aware of. On the other hand, I'm told by some of
my colleges here at the university that TeX remains the format an
actual technical book publisher would be asking for. Honestly there
may be a time when I would want to see about getting a little pocket
guide published for it. Who knows. I don't want to kill that as an
option though. My primary goal here is to have a book format for my
documentation that I can offer on the web, in a PDF or something
alongside the actual Py distributions, or whatever! The only other
app I've ever heard of that sounded like "competition" for LaTeX was
docbook(?). A friend from Red Hat indicated that that's a format
they used. Of course I think they're moving away from it....
