Well, the filename was correct but it had a % prepended for unknown
reasons.

If you like I can give a few examples, I made a backup before removing.

It looks like my code isn't properly going 'oh, this doesn't match  
what I was looking for, move on'.  ;)  That's all the info I really  
needed though (to know that that was the correct filename but with %  
on the front)  thanks!  Wonder how it got there... looks like an  
avatar hash.
