I'm having serious problems trying to stay connected to the aim
network, so this /might/ be server related.  (or it could just be my
machine or internet connection)

Hrm . . .  wouldn't be surprising.  =/  You know I bet you are right,  
that sounds more like a "can't make the tcp connection" problem than  
a password problem.
