Luckly, it's not happening anymore. What occurred was the following: I'm regularly at #zsnes and #miranda, both at freenode.net. Once inside either of the rooms, the other wouldn't connect. Instants after leaving such room, the second connected instantly, like waiting for the queue. Today I'm using both rooms without a problem. Perhaps a huge net load somewhere, who knows?
There's no limit, you can connect to as many servers and rooms at a time that you like. (That's no to say that there might be another reason why you couldn't join another room - like the server didn't allow it, or something caused a bug - but I don't see anything in the logs, so it should have been fine)
