I do know of some PHP based clients although I have not tested/
researched them in about 1 year.

The most refined and least expensive I found was http://www.jbtop.com/index.html
although it's commercial and has changed its availability from
application to service.

PHP libraries such as:
http://code.blitzaffe.com/pages/phpclasses/files/jabber_client_52-11
are used to build Centova Messenger: http://www.centova.com/pages/messenger
although Centova did not work with ejabberD last time I tested and
contacted the developers. You may want to contact them or test if you
use ejabberD.

>From what I have discovered developers that have made a JavaScript/PHP
client have turned it into commercial licensing due to the complexity
of such a web app.

Someone else may also have an app in mind too.
I'd like to know if there is any new development of a PHP chat app,
if you find a good one.
