I've actually been meaning (need more round-tuits), to post about the current state of the transports, and how I would like to split the 3rd-part/xmpp logic from the xmpp-transport logic. That would allow transport developers to focus on the protocol translation support, and not have to muck about with 'how do I integrate with a jabber server as a transport'. I know that Alexey started work on a generic pidgin (it was still libgaim in those days) transport, but I'm sure it's bitrotted in since. Git repo is at [1], or tar.bz2 or repo at [2].
