So I saw this today, and it seems that the https authentication part is failing - login.yahoo.com is returning a 400 Bad Request - so no packet trace will help here. I'm digging to see what libpurple does, and if they've changed anything in their code recently, otherwise it's probably a formatting issue on sending the details to the login server.
