That did it! All the tests run fine.

In case anyone runs into the same problem, please keep in mind that
to compile boost with gcc 4.1.2 you have to use the same flag that
Andreas indicated earlier ('-DBOOST_PYTHON_NO_PY_SIGNATURES').
After running bootstrap.sh (see http://wiki.tiker.net/BoostInstallationHowto)
you need to edit /tools/build/v2/user-config.jam under the boost directory,
and change the gcc configuration to

using gcc : 4.1.2 : gcc : cxxflags='-DBOOST_PYTHON_NO_PY_SIGNATURES' ;
