You're right, it turns out that I installed "AnyEdit" at the same time as I installed PyDev and for some reason associated the problem with PyDev. AnyEdit has a "feature" that nukes all "uncesseary" whitespace in your editor on save, so that's the rub. I'm not even sure why I have any edit there still, since I totally forgot I had it there ... I think I was hoping it had a "column select" mode (no such luck). I did find ANOTHER plugin for that, though ... if anybody's interested it's (aptly named) "Columns for Eclipse" http://sourceforge.net/projects/columns4eclipse/ .. it's not all that smooth seamless as I'd like it to be, but at least it's something!
