You're right, it turns out that I installed "AnyEdit" at the same time as I
installed PyDev and for some reason associated the problem with PyDev.

AnyEdit has a "feature" that nukes all "uncesseary" whitespace in your editor
on save, so that's the rub.

I'm not even sure why I have any edit there still, since I totally forgot I
had it there ... I think I was hoping it had a "column select" mode (no such
luck).

I did find ANOTHER plugin for that, though ... if anybody's interested it's
(aptly named)  "Columns for Eclipse"

.. it's not all that smooth seamless as I'd like it to be, but at least it's
something!
