Aha!  That's it.  Yeah, symlinks will cause problems on most any linux system
as they tend to use that for the site-packages directory.  It's all part of
the scheme that linux uses to have multiple versions of python installed and
still be easy to maintain.

If this is all in the open source pydev, I may have a look into the code myself.
That is, of course if I get the time.  (Though given my current schedule, don't
count on that)
