Hmmm.... I went back to work, waiting for perhaps another suggestion, when I just noticed that the situation has resolved itself. Perhaps adding numpy to the built-ins has worked. linspace and friends are no longer underlined. Strange that it took a bit of time and work before it kicked in, but all seems well now.
