I'm a new pydev user. One annoying thing which is making it unusable for me is that when I select a variable it will highlight all occurrences of that name in the current file using a bright yellow background. I use light colored text with a black background as I find it easier on my eyes. A bright yellow background makes the text unreadable. I looked all through the settings turning every knob I could find and couldn't find a way to either change the background color for this highlight or just turn it off.
