Thank you very much for your response.

I followed your suggestion and indeed this turned out to be a pylint problem
(i.e., the problems also occurred when run from the command line).

I asked on the python-projects list
(http://lists.logilab.org/pipermail/python-projects/2009-April/001855.html)
and Sylvain Thénault from logilab was kind enough to point out that they are
already aware of the problem: http://www.logilab.org/ticket/8796
