Really weird... Eclipse does have some problems with the update manager sometimes. To give you more info on that, I need to know what's the eclipse version you're using and whether you installed as a zip or from the update site, and the contents of your error log when that happens (see http://pydev.org/faq.html#how_do_i_report_a_bug ) . Just as a note: An easy way out is just getting a clean eclipse, installing pydev and just pointing it to your existing workspace (which should be fast and easy if you don't have too many other plugins).
