It's the latest *binary release*, 2.6.7 was a source only release. But
still, you're correct.
The download pages are primarily looked after by the release managers
and not the "web team" (if the rag-tag bunch of volunteers can even be
called a team...).
Furthermore, it was suggested by a friend to have a
http://www.python.org/download/releases/2.6.x/ or
http://www.python.org/download/releases/2.6/latest maybe, to point to
the latest always
That would be great. It would need to be co-ordinated with the release
managers, so that they can update the aliases when they do releases. If
we had a dynamic site we could make it automatic of course.
