Thanks for your reply.

But to my knowledge, in order to monitor the temporal evolution of 
quantities like kinetic energy, dissipation rate of energy, enstrophy, ... 
one should do directly in PyFR, since otherwise you should write the 
*.pyfrs every few iterations, right?

In such case I will develop a simple plug-in for this following the 
examples provided in the sources.
