It might be pygames newest version. Depending on what people want and do. At the moment it's a separate branch, and there's most likely going to be at least another release or two done with the current code base.
I personally would like to keep a backwards compatible API as much as possible (so current games continue to run). Apart from that we need to clean up pygame somewhat, and with py3k and SDL 1.3/2 it seems like a good time to do it - and Marcus's work is an awesome step towards that! However there's still a lot of work to be done on it (see Marcus's list). This is all open to discussion at the moment too, so if anyone has any ideas about Marcus's implementation or plans let us know.
