I'm wondering this, too. I'm only just starting to get into Python, but I do know that Python 2 is better in the sense that Python 3 is not really supported by a whole lot of things yet. But, isn't version 2.6 still better than 2.5? I haven't ever heard of any incompatibilities or disadvantages for 2.6, and I haven't experienced any trouble using 2.6 on Windows.
Sounds to me like someone simply forgetting to update that text, but only being a novice, I have no idea.
